Bihar 3×660MW Nabinagar & other Power Projects -Status Update

Implementing Agency : Nabinagar Power Generating Co. Pvt. Ltd. – JV of Bihar SEB & NTPC Ltd.

Capacity : 3x660MW  at Nabinagar and Barun blocks

Coal Requirement : 11.6 MMTPA

  • Feasibility Report prepared and approved by NPGCPL Board.
  • Estimated cost Rs. 12,964.577 Crores.
  • NTPC Ltd is consultant. Estimated cost Rs. 120 crores.
  • The land area approx. 2,800 acres for the project identified and demarcated. Land cost estimated as Rs. 173 Crores (approx.) has been deposited to District Administration. Land acquisition under progress.
  • The topographical survey and geotechnical survey has been completed.
  • State outlay plan amounting to Rs. 128 Crore has been approved by Dept of Planning, Govt. of Bihar for the year 2009-10 of which Rs. 95 Crore has been transferred to NPGCPL.
  • Various Statutory clearance have been/are being obtained.
  • The Processing Fee of Rs. 5.00 lakh deposited by firm vide letter dated 06.10.08 for coal linkage to Ministry of Coal.
  • 75% generated power to BSEB.

Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar formally kickstarted the the much awaited Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district, by laying the foundation stone. On 31st January 2012. This marks the end of tussles over land acquisition and rehabilitation.

Over 2,800 acres of mostly single-crop agricultural land has been acquired in eight villages each of Nabinagar and Barun block in Aurangabad

To be commissioned in: 2014-15

Status of other  three major coal based power projects under PPP mode:

1.  Thermal power projects (2×660 MW) at Chausa (Buxar) under CASE -1 Bidding Process

Bihar Share: 80 per cent of the gross installed capacity

Only M/s Lanco Infratech has participated in tender bidding under case –1, Re-tendering

Coal linkage to be provided by BSEB which is still not finalised

2. Thermal power projects (2×660 MW) at , Pirpainty (Bhagalpur ) under CASE -2 Bidding Process

Bihar Share: 80 per cent of the gross installed capacity

Bidder will have to arrange for coal linkages. Till date, no bidder has approached for this plants mainly because of the lack of coal.

3. Thermal power projects (2×660 MW) at Kajra (Lakhisarai) under CASE -2 Bidding Process
