Rajkeswur Purryag (better known as Kailash Purryag) is a well known face in the list of Bihari Origin People who have made a mark worldwide. Presently, he is the President of Mauritius, a country which is often referred as a mini India in the Indian Ocean. The Natives of Mauritius are mostly people from Bihar who were immigrated between 1834 and 1921 by Britishers
Rajkeswur Purryag assumed the office of President of Mauritius in July 2012 where he replaced Sir Anerood Jugnauth. Previously he served as Member of Parliament, Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius
His ancestors were natives of Gaya District of Bihar. He would be visiting his Ancestral Village at Gaya on January 6, before he would assume the Role of Chief Guest at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2013 being held in Kochi Kerala.
Rajkeswur Purryag was born on 12 December 1947 in Camp Fouquereaux, Mauritius. He attended the Shree Shamboonath Government School and later the Mauritius College. He was sworn in as attorney-at-law in 1973. The same year he joined the Mauritian Labour Party. He became general secretary of the party in 1984 and president in 1995.
Kailash was living at La Caverne-Phoenix before he became president. He is the eldest of a family comprising seven children. He is married to Aneetah Purryag since 8 December 1973 and has a daughter and two grandchildren. Rajkeswur Purryag like the songs of Lata Mangeshkar and enjoys swimming in his spare time and is also an avid of lecture.
